An Incoincidental Truth

Senator Harry Reid lashed out at big oil companies today, exposing their ravenous agenda.
"It's outrageous ...Isn't it interesting every year about this time, a refinery goes down for repairs," said Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

"Is that coincidental? Or is it part of a plan that these multinational, huge companies who are making obscene profits in the tens of billions of dollars -- is this part of their game to keep the profits going?" Reid said.
I think Reid is on to something here. I've never associated a maintenance schedule with a plan to keep a business profitable, but it certainly seems plausible. Thankfully, Reid is impervious to detailed EIA reports.

Not to be outshined, newly crowned Speaker Pelosi announced a multitude of hearings dealing with everything from price gouging to Bush administration failures.
"Years of Bush administration policies that have favored Big Oil over the consumers have resulted in record dependence on foreign oil," the California Democrat added.
While Pelosi isn't quite as clear in her message as Reid, I believe I agree with her. Bush's failure to open ANWR and the Florida coast to drilling has forced us to rely on foreign oil supplies and consequently kept the price of oil artificially high by capping production.

I only hope I can still afford to drive to work in 2008.
